ME 4293 - Senior Design ProjectsThis is a team-project course requiring conceptual and detailed design, fabrication, and testing of an actual prototype engineering system for a customer - often from local industry. Students must apply knowledge and skills acquired in earlier courses and incorporate engineering standards and realistic constraints of the following nature: economic, environmental, sustainability, manufacturability, ethical, health and safety, social, political. Students must prepare oral presentation, written reports and exercise problem-solving techniques along the following project reviews: Preliminary Design Review:The detailed design is presented. Compliance with engineering specifications is assured through presentation of analysis, layouts, drawings and renderings. The team convinces management their solution is “ready to build.” Prototype Design ReviewFunctioning prototype hardware is presented and demonstrated. Engineering specifications are reviewed and plans are presented for testing the prototype to assure its compliance with all specs. The team convinces management they are “ready to test.” Final Design Review:The final, shiny painted product is presented and demonstrated. The team reviews the entire project, documents the engineering, documents project and manufacturing costs, and makes detailed recommendations for improvements that could be made to future revisions. The design is “ready to deliver.”
